2012 A Year To Remember For Sport In Great Britain

Come July 27, 2012, everyone’s eye will turn to Britain; the nation will be hosting Olympic Summer Games. From its inauguration, nation’s parade has been one of the most attractive events. More than 205 countries will take part in the event bringing their sporting heroes and Goodwill Ambassadors. Visitors come all the way from Guam, a tiny island, South Sudan (Africa’s and World’s newest nation) and Bhutan the Himalayan Kingdom to and USA and Bolivia, a country found in the heart of southern part of American continent.

One major event which will worth remembering is the Olympic cycling which will take place in Surrey. People met the news with great excitement and many spectators are expected to converge in Box Hill where the road race will actually take place. Nearly all of the world’s top cyclists will come down to Surrey this month. The cyclist will take the opportunity of cycling from London to Surrey as an opportunity to test out their skill in preparation for their main event, Tour de France, ranked as the world’s number one cycling race and will take place next year.

... take place at the center of the country passing through Walton-on Thames, Richmond, Waybridge, Working, Dorking, Guildford, Leatherhead and Esher, along with other towns. Boxhill will provide the main focus because men cyclists will go around it nine times. The last time in 2007 when Tour de France came to London, more than two million spectators came to watch the event.

Another spectacular event during the Olympics is Olympic football; Wales will play a crucial role during this event because it will be hosting a number of football matches. The first match will kick off two days prior to the opening ceremony where the Great British women’s football team will open the tournament with New Zealand on 25th July at the Millennium Stadium. For those who did not make it to Poland or Ukraine this year to watch Euro 2012 games, the men’s bronze final which will be held at Cardiff venue may make up for it.

This summer does not only comprise of Olympic Games, cricket lovers can head to Wales on 24th August to watch a one day international Nat West Series between England and South Africa. The thrilling event will be played at Swalec Stadium and it is a litmus test for England in determining whether their unbeaten record on Cardiff soil will stand.

For those people who want to experience something thrilling on water, they should go to Cardiff from 8th to 10th June to enjoy the ICF Canoe Slalom World championship. The event is more than just paddling in a canoe gently, competitors are put through their tempo by making them tackle obstacles and maneuver against strong tides. A number of best boatmen around the globe converge to take part in the event and also some teams will again be present during the 2012 Olympics giving spectators a feel of what is to come.
