Animals have played an important part in our life since the dawn of time. Animals have helped throughout history by working for humans. Horses and oxen have pulled plows for farming, and carriages and covered wagons for traveling. Many farmers use animals for their livelihood. Many of these animals are used for meat or for milk.

But unfortunately many of us do not treat these animals properly as the way they deserve to be treated. One can read about stories of inhumane treatment weekly in any newspaper, and some of the stories are enough to make one nauseous. There are stories of animals left in homes without food or water, in their own waste and crawling with fleas and ticks, stories of farm animals abandoned, neglected, underfed and abused.

As these animals are important part of our life, it is our moral duty to protect animals against people who cause deliberates and unnecessary pain or suffering to them. There are some steps you can take to make sure you are not a silent voice in the quest to prevent animal cruelty. Now, one can take help of animal welfare Act to prevent such cruelty.

Animal welfare ...
... is defined as "the avoidance of abuse and exploitation of animals by humans by maintaining appropriate standards of accommodation, feeding and general care, the prevention and treatment of disease and the assurance of freedom from harassment, and unnecessary discomfort and pain”.

Ensuring animal welfare is a human responsibility that includes consideration for all aspects of animal well-being, There are also several government and non government organizations and work towards welfare of animals. There are many online platforms that also work for animal welfare and animal rights. One of such online platform is halabol.com. There are many animal lovers, who raised their voice against animal cruelty through articles, debates and online petitions.

Recently, team Halabol has raised their voice about animals that are used in laboratories for different types of research. More than 100 million animals are used yearly in experimentation, mostly consisting of rats, fish, guinea pigs, mice, frogs and rabbits. Many of them are euthanized or slaughtered after the experiments if they survive the procedure, usually only if their continued survival is not significant to the experiment.

There is an ongoing heated debate discussing whether animal testing is justified. Animal welfare campaigners, health organizations, people who own pets and the general public are usually against the experiments conducted. However, many Scientists, people who have/know someone with a terminal illness and other members of the general public believe that it should be allowed as the health and rights of humans should be the main concern.

Animal experimentation is bad science. We need to get rid of it, and replace it with good science: species-specific research, which relies on human cells instead of animal cells, human tissues instead of animal tissues, and human data instead of animal data. Scientists and legislators are starting formally to acknowledge this imperative.

There are numerous perspectives on animal welfare that are influenced by a person's values and experiences. Most important is awareness. Just keeping your eyes open to possible abuse cases. If you drive by a house with a dog in bad shape, contact the authorities and your local animal welfare society. Talk to your friends about it. Awareness leads to education. The more we know the better we can do for our furry friends.
