Surface Area of a Sphere Formula:
A sphere in solid geometry is a object bounded by a surface in which every point from a fixed point is equidistant. The fixed point is called the centre. For example: shot put ball, ball bearings etc.
Surface Area of a Sphere Formula is given by, S = 4 pi r2
Formula for the surface Area of a Sphere:
Surface Area of a Sphere is the curved surface area of a cylinder = 2 pi r h
= 2 pi r x 2r
= 4 pi r2
Surface Area of a Sphere Equation:
Surface area, is the sum of the areas of the lateral surfaces and the base of the solid figure
A sphere is a body bounded by a surface which is equidistant from a fixed point (centre) to every point on the surface.
A cylinder that circumscribes a sphere has a curved surface area equal to the surface area of the sphere
We have, curved surface area of a cylinder = 2 pi r h
In a sphere, height is the diameter of it and hence h = 2r
So, the Surface Area of a Sphere Equation = Curved surface area of a cylinder = 2 pi r (2r) [h = d=2r in a sphere]
...
... = 4 pi r2
Equation for Surface Area of a Sphere:
A sphere is a three dimensional object and is round solid object. For example, a ball.
As in a circle, a two dimensional figure, in a sphere (a three dimensional object) also the set of points on the surface are all the same distance r, from a fixed point C in the space. The equidistance is called the radius (r) and the fixed point is called the centre of the sphere (C). As in a circle, the maximum distance through the centre of the sphere is called the diameter of the sphere. The diameter d of the sphere is twice its radius, d = 2r

A cylinder that circumscribes a sphere has a curved surface area equal to the surface area of the sphere
Curved surface area of a cylinder
= 2 pi r h
= 4 pi r2
Formula for surface Area of a Sphere is 4 pi r2 [pi = 3.14 and r = radius of the sphere]
Example: Calculate the surface area of a plastic ball of radius 7cm. [pi=22/7]
Solution: radius of the plastic ball (sphere)= 7cm
Surface area of sphere = 4 pi r2
= 4 x 22/7 x (7)2
= 616 cm2
