Catch wrestling is the descriptive name used to refer to a certain type of folk wrestling and participated in by two wrestlers. Catch involves incorporating hooks or submission holds which enhance the wrestler’s effectiveness. It is the foundation of most other modern style wrestling formats that are used today. For instance, mixed martial arts, submission and professional wrestlers have their foundational basis on catch wrestling. Catch wrestling has its basis and popularity with the carnivals in the United States of America. They would challenge the locals with many rewards and other prizes if they won their strong man by submission or by pin. Catch wrestling is a very popular form of unarmed wrestling where one can even subdue the opponent by submission within seconds.
