A trademark is defined as a mark that may include a name, device, symbol or a combination of the three. The trademark is intended to help distinguish the services and products of various providers. It is also referred to as the brand name. Though it may not be compulsory to have such a mark, the list of advantages that having such a mark has, is hard to ignore. First, the trademark registration helps to declare the legal ownership of the mark to the public, and the exclusive right to use it in connection with products. The history of trademark registration dates back to the days of the Roman Empire. The blacksmith who were involved in making swords for the empire are thought to be the first people to use the trademarks.

Trademark registration is not an automatic thing. To register trademarks, one will require a review by a law officer such as an attorney. The costs that you will incur to file a trade mark will depend on several factors. These include the number of marks. A given application allows for only one ...
... mark, several marks will require the businessperson to file separate applications for the other marks. The number of classes will also affect the application fees that you will pay to file a trademark, since each class of services and goods is charged separately. This means that, when one is filling a trademark for computer software in class ten, they will be charged other amounts of different goods such as t-shirts that are of another class. One has to pay the trademark registration fees for goods from both classes for the application to be approved. One should know that fees for filling a trademark are non-refundable whatsoever.

In the united state of America, all trademarks are maintained in a database that is maintained by USPTO. This is regardless of whether one took the step to register trademarks online or one on one. The data base is surprisingly open to the public. It is pretty much easy to register trademarks online. All that one needs to do is identify a reputable site that effectively helps people in such trade registration processes. An added advantage of filling trademark is the fact that it greatly helps in creation of notice and use that is constructive nationwide. To register trademarks will hence act as a restraint to the consequent use of the mark by other people, since it gives then a notice that exclusive rights to use are being claimed by the indexed owner.

To register trademarks online, all that one needs to do is fill an online application. This quite a straightforward process as it will take you not more than 90 minutes. You will also not need the additional services of a lawyer to help you through. In the U.S one can register on www.uspto.gov. This is the official website for the U.S patent and trademark office. To effectively register trademarks online, one needs to check with the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) to ensure that they do not file a trademark that resembles another for the same category of products. One needs to keep in mind that, if they register trademarks online, they should be unique. If they register trademarks that resemble others, they will be rejected hence will be a waste of time. Online trademark registration may cost them between $275 and $325 depending on where they seek the services from. After filing trademark, one should get response to the application within a period of six months.
