Also to go with this form there are various leaflets (named PA1A, PA2, PA3 and PA4) which are printed to help you through the probate process of the form to make sure its filled out correctly. Please note that this form only applies to those residing in England & Wales. If residing in Scotland or Northern Ireland, different probate of wills forms will be needed which you will find are also available from the HMRC site.
IHT205 (2006) Probate Form
This form is used if it occurs that the estate of the deceased is classed as an excepted estate and if they passed away after 01/09/2006. An excepted estate is classified because it is an estate that is of low value (coming under the threshold for Inheritance Tax of £325,000). It is also the case that British nationals living abroad can have excepted estates, this also applies to those who leave their estate to spouse or a chairty.
IHT207 (2006) Probate Form
This form is required to be filled in should the deceased live abroad or have limited assets. If you do have to fill out this form you should also fill out the IHT207 form mentioned above as well, although persons filling that form in will not always have to fill out this form as well.
