The Passive And Active Forms Of Marketing
There are a lot of people out there more than willing to embrace the passive styles of marketing while ignoring the active ones.
Passive marketing deals with things like color printing and the various print versions of marketing. Getting brochures made, getting postcards sent out, and getting posters put up are all going to be apart of the passive style of marketing.
The reason this is passive is because once you have the material made and sent out you don't have to do anything else in association with it. Once a poster is put up on the wall of a place no matter what you're doing that poster continues to do its job. You don't have to actively deal with it anymore.
Passive marketing is a must for any business looking to generate sales. After all, you can work with a wide variety of passive marketing techniques and have them all going at the same time without a lot of effort from you beyond initially designing and ordering the color printing.
But too many companies forgo the active marketing almost completely in favor of passive marketing. I'm ...
... not saying I don't understand why, either, because I understand completely.
Running a business means thinking about a lot of things at once. You'll likely have a very full plate, and the more things you can take care of all at once and never have to think about again the better. Active marketing requires you to be always considering that next marketing opportunity. This isn't always easy if you have a lot on your mind.
But what exactly does active marketing involve? Making phone calls to potential clients. Always have a business card ready and always keeping your eyes open for future customers. It means having marketing on your mind most the time if not all the time. You're actively seeking people rather than letting a piece of marketing material do it for you.
It requires you to physically be there to talk to a person and handle the marketing push in person. Most of all it requires a lot more time than passive marketing ever will, and many people just don't have the time they're willing to devote to it.
But if you want to have a truly successful time in marketing you just need to make good use of both forms of marketing, because neither one alone can completely do the job for you.
Passive does wonders to get your name out there where you couldn't always go personally, and active does a great job of adding an additional, personal touch to the sale because you're the one making it.
Only by combining these two effective forms of marketing can you get the most business possible. It isn't always easy, but it definitely always works.
