A Bespoke London Kitchen In Chelsea
The ‘Chelsea Studio Kitchen’ by Plain English demonstrates how a traditional design can be cleverly integrated into a modern space.
The room itself has a contemporary feel; it is a large area which has been made to feel more spacious by the amount of natural light let in through the floor-to-ceiling windows and skylight. The neutral colour scheme of ‘9-093’ by Papers & Paints also adds to the room’s light and airy feel, having been used on the floorboards, walls and ceiling, as well as the kitchen cupboards and chairs.
The untreated wooden worktop on the kitchen table, enamel factory lights and bold red lettering hanging on the walls, add an industrial element to the already contemporary surroundings.
As a contrast, the kitchen design is more traditional. The cupboard doors have Georgian-inspired mouldings, beaded detailing and are finished with elegant satin nickel drawer pulls, satin nickel cupboard latches and small china knobs. The over mantle, situated above the country-style Aga cooker, has similar Georgian detailing, which is mirrored in the cornicing of the wall and counter-standing ...
... cupboards. Plain English’s hand painted Ball & Bar chairs, similar to those one might expect to find in a country kitchen, surround the kitchen table.
To complement the calm colour scheme, the Aga has been chosen in a classic white finish and the worktops and splash backs are in Carrara Marble, which adds a sense of ‘luxury’ to the classic design. The sunken white double Butler sink provides plenty of space to prepare food and wash up, without impacting on the visual aesthetic of the cupboard run.
In a room of this size, usable space is available in abundance and the inclusion of an island into the design not only provides valuable storage and preparation areas but also encourages social interaction with those sitting at the designer kitchen table.
