What To Do When You Run Out Of Gas
You may have heard numerous stories about people who had run out of gas while driving in their vehicles and you though it could never happen to you. However, you never know what you may run into and you should find out some useful tips in the case you run out of gas.
If you have suddenly ran out of gas while driving, you may be stuck in the middle of the road. The first thing you should do is to take the car out of the road. It is the first safety procedure to do and you should find the first place near the road to take your car to. Other drivers, especially in areas without visibility, could notice your stranded car too late and could not avoid an accident.
Also, make sure to turn on the car's hazard lights to notice other drivers that you are having a problem. This is especially mandatory if you happen to run out of gas while driving at night. In the worst-case scenario when you have absolutely no gas left to drive the car out of the road, you should push it away from incoming traffic.
If you cannot move the car on your own, turn on the hazard lights and ask for help from other drivers or people passing ...
... by. Remember, getting the car out of the road is the most important thing you should do when you run out of gas.
After you have moved the car off the road, it is time to think ahead. If you have access to road assistance, give them a call and wait for the support car to arrive. If you do not have access to a road assistant service, call somebody you know, a friend or a family member.
Tell them where you are and how to get to you. Also, make sure you do not consume your entire phone's battery on useless phone calls. Always keep some battery for an unexpected emergency call. If none of the above options is available to you, call the local towing service.
Ask for people passing by for its phone number and expect them in your car. However, calling the local towing service will cost you, so make sure you have money before calling them.
If your phone battery is depleted, there is no signal or you do not have the phone with you, the best way to get help is to look for some. Sitting in the car will not serve you anything. If you remember passing through a city not a long time ago, walk in that direction to find someone to help you with your problem.
If you have run out of gas during the night and there is nothing close, start walking towards a lighted area. Dense lights mean that there is city nearby and the chances to get help increase. Of course, this is only required if you get stranded in the wilderness. Things are much easier if you run out of gas in a city or crowded place, as there are numerous gas stations nearby. Ask for anyone for help, directions and advice to get to the nearest gas station of public phone.
