Thanks to the 100 in 100 campaign, the University of Cumbria plans to grow its team of Apprentices by taking on two more new apprentices.

The 100 in 100 campaign run by the Lancaster Guardian and Lancaster & Morecambe College has been even more successful than we could have anticipated. With almost 120 vacancies created and filled in the last 100 days we have generated opportunities for Apprentices in a range of different areas from Business Administration to Catering and Construction. But it's not all over, just because the 100 days are up doesn't mean the team have stopped all their hard work. Lancaster and Morecambe College still have a number of vacancies available across the region. Business Administration and Catering have been particularly popular and there are a number of vacancies available in both those areas.

Janet Boardman from the LMC Business team said: ‘The response from employers to the 100 in 100 campaign has been brilliant. We've been working with a range of different businesses to support them to take on Apprentices, anything from SMEs to big corporate firms - now we need the right candidates ...
... to fill these vacancies! We are looking for enthusiastic, high calibre candidates who are interested in earning as they learn. Apprenticeships are open to candidates of all ages so they could be anything from 16 to 63. We offer a vacancy matching service so candidates will only be paired up with employers who are looking for a profile similar to theirs meaning most of matches are very successful and work well both for the candidate and the employer.'

Terri Moore, aged 17, from Heysham started her Apprenticeship with the University of Cumbria in September and has really excelled in her role.

‘I am really enjoying my apprenticeship, it's brilliant. I do lots of different tasks within my role as a Business Administration Apprentice and I am learning so much.'

Like many other Apprenticeships, the Business Administration course offers the flexibility for Apprentices and Employers to specialise in the area that they are particularly interested in. Terri who has recently finished her schooling at Heysham High School, commented:

‘I am particularly pleased to have found a position within a Human Resources department as I plan to be a HR assistant in the future so this is the ideal job for me. I am really hoping that I will be able to progress to a job in this department when I have completed my Apprenticeship as I really love working here.'

By becoming a vital part of the team she is working with Terri has inspired the University of Cumbria to take another step in supporting the scheme by creating two new positions for Business Administration Apprentices within the university.

So there's good news all round for jobs in the Lancaster and Morecambe area, with funding of up to £2000 per Apprentice per year available for employers and vacancies available for candidates the next few months look to be as promising as the last 100 days! The jobs creation campaign does not end there as well, with more opportunities available all the time Lancaster and Morecambe College and the Lancaster Guardian are planning more events and opportunities in the near future to keep our local jobs market vibrant!
