These days, we can never be sure when a disaster might strike. A glance at the last fifteen years would make it very clear how prone we have become to disasters. Be it the earthquake in Japan or the hurricane Katrina, we have seen them all. They may be natural or man-made but when they happen, we don’t want to be caught off guard. Even if we have the best emergency services workers or first responders, we can’t always entirely depend on them because sometimes they might take days to get to us. Access to emergency supplies would greatly increase our chances of survival at times like these. Thus, it is a great idea to be ready with all the necessary disaster supplies to brave whatever might be in store for us.

We can stock up on emergency essentials at home. It is best to stash food supplies, which do not need cooking or refrigeration and can last a few days. Stocking up on water, which could last at least 3 days is equally important to stay hydrated. The other necessities are a good first aid kit, plenty of various sized batteries in working condition, radios, lights, flash lights, blankets and sleeping bags for everybody ...
... in the family, sanitation supplies like shampoo, hand sanitizer, detergent, bleach, toilet paper, mending supplies, shoes and clothes and some matches in water proof packets. Not to forget saving copies of IDs like driver’s license, social security card and passport. Also put away enough money just for times like these.

A number of emergency kits, which suit every kind of situation, are available in the market from various disaster equipment suppliers these days. It’s best to buy a family kit that you can just grab on to, when you have to make a run for it. But simply buying a kit wouldn’t do us any good if we don’t know how to use it. It is best to undergo training for disaster survival skills.

Disaster supplies can also be bought online. They are available in different sizes depending on the need. If you plan to buy such supplies online, find a site that offers emergency kits designed by people who have experience as first responders. Also check if the site offers classes in coping up with disaster survival.

These supplies must always be our number one priority for survival, because even if they don’t guarantee your survival, they will increase your chances of survival dramatically!
