Glasspacks and round or oval, tubular mufflers use a perforated tube in order to cancel out noise without undue power loss because of backpressure. These have wide openings for maximum exhaust flow and give of a low, powerful tone from idle to full throttle.

Turbo type mufflers use traditional baffles, but are substantially wider in diameter; some of these produce engine power increases of up to 30 horsepower.

At least one manufacturer product combines glasspack technology with spiral louver type baffle that reduces exhaust backpressure by increasing the speed of exhaust gases on their way to the outside of the vehicle.
