Marketing Your New Company

Congratulations on your new company! Now that you've gotten a lot of paperwork out of the way, rented some office space and chosen a great business name, you're ready to let the world know about you!
But, have you decided who you want to sell to? And how will you get the word out to these people? What kind of marketing materials are you going to use? If you haven't thought about those questions yet, relax and read the following tips on how to market your new company:
Decide on a target market
The first thing you want to do is to choose a target market - a segment of the population you'll focus your marketing efforts on. Think of who would want to use your product. Whose problems can your product solve? Figure out who you want to target, for example fathers aged 30-45 with a household income of over $50,000. Get as specific as possible on who you envision your product to cater to. This will help you refine your marketing materials so that you strongly appeal to this demographic.
Use word of mouth marketing
The most old-fashioned marketing tactic actually works the best: having one person tell ...
... another how great your business is. But when you are starting out, you need to first get the word out to your target market - use some color printing materials, such as flyers and brochures to start the buzz. Hang these materials in supermarkets, libraries, your town hall - anywhere its allowed. Invite friends and family to try your product for free so that they can tell their friends, family and co-workers about your product. People trust other people's opinions more than yours, so word of mouth is a very effective marketing tactic.
Use the Internet
You don't have to be a computer expert to run a Web site. Even if you don't know the first thing about HTML codes, jpegs and other online jargon, you can host a Web site. Web site-hosting companies basically build the Web site for you from templates they've already created and you just plug your information into the template.
Creating a Web site is a great, cheap way to advertise your business. You can list all your products or services on the site and eventually even allow shopping though your site.
In addition to creating a Web site, you can also advertise on other companies' Web sites. Scope out companies that have products that complement yours and ask if you can run an ad on their page. If you have a Web site, you can swap ad space for free. It's also a good idea to advertise on Google and other search engine sites so that when people search for your type of business, your name pops up at the top of the page.
There are many ways to market your new business and these are just a few of them. Deciding on a target market is key to starting a marketing campaign - from there you can market however you want, but the methods mentioned here can get the word out the fastest.
