BMX riding is not only about riding a bike but it also involves several other important factors, such as style, speed, and type of riding. Basically, BMX riding is divided into few main styles - BMX racing, flatland BMX, and dirt jumping. You should purchase your BMX bike depending upon the kind of BMX riding you prefer.

BMX Racing:

This is the most popular form of BMX riding. Speed, excitement, fun, and ease of learning make BMX racing popular among youngsters wanting to get into other serious forms of racing. Just the thought of BMX racing with dirt jumps and corners is enough to trigger the excitement.

BMX racing bikes should be lightweight. They are mainly made from aluminum frames and contain light body parts to facilitate easy speeding of the vehicle. Although racing bikes are also used to perform jumps on race track, they are not ideally designed for that. A beginner needs proper BMX gear including padded shorts to safeguard himself from any sort of injuries during BMX racing.

Flatland BMX:

It is the preferred form of BMX riding by young riders. As the name suggests, this form of BMX ...
... riding involves doing a flatland in an open area. You don't need long riding trails for performing Flatland BMX, but just enough room to maneuver your bike.

Flatland BMX bikes are similar to freestyle bikes but are lighter than that and have slight difference in construction. These bikes have pegs that support the weight of the bike and lockable brakes that give you the freedom to keep your hands away from the bike handles.

Dirt Jumping BMX:

This is probably the easiest but the riskiest form of BMX riding. All you need to begin Dirt Jumping is some empty space and a shovel that can help you in making jumps. The riding form, which originated from empty trails, has now become so popular that several dirt jumping parks are being made in different parts of the world. Landing during a jump is risky and demands you to wear padded shorts so that your butt, back and thighs are not hurt even when you fall on your back. Dirt jumping bikes are durable bikes with strong aggressive tires. These bikes have no pegs and they mainly come with a rear brake.

Although you can try different types of BMX riding from a single bike, but if you want to specialize in any one form of riding, you will need right machine for that. A right bike combined with right BMX gear is all you need to expertise the form of BMX riding you adore.
