We, New Yorkers, strongly believes that life is not a bed of roses, we are well aware about the health dangers that exists in the world and this is what makes us to see the world through the tinged glasses instead of rose coloured glasses. Americans, as whole are known for their travelling and backpacking craziness and travel clinic assures their health for this passion. Today, I would to share a story that I have been through few months ago. The story was about a software professional, who eulogised a travel clinic for saving his son’s life.
“I work as a technical writer for a reputed software company based in New York and my work keeps me on travel to distant locations. Last summer, my son (an environmental studies’ student, American University, Washington, D.C) and I got a chance to visit Panama. While we were fixing our travelling itinerary, travel agent suggested us to visit a travel clinic. He informed us that this particular region of world is one among the other 42 countries, which are prone to ‘yellow fever’, which is a life menacing fever and the virus of this fever is transmitted by the bite of female ...

Upon arriving at travel clinic, we were told to have yellow fever vaccination that will start working after 10 days and suppose to last for 10 years. Besides that, we were told to use all preventive measures to avoid any mosquito bite. Finally, we were served with an “international certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis”, which is a mandatory requirement of many international borders before you board in.
Then comes the scenario, that gave me a death experience, when one fine morning, my son complaint about a back pain and joint ache. We rushed to the doctor but the doctors were on the round to see the patients admitted in their facility. In addition, because of the language barrier, the attended turned a blind toward us. After the doctor came, his first question was, “are we yellow fever protected, did we recently have vaccination?” Our yes, relived him a bit and after having a routine check up and inspecting the blood specimen, he gave us a clean bill of health and confirmed that it is not yellow fever. We returned back home, and the first thing we did was bought a thanks gift for the itinerary agent as well as for the life saviour physician at travel clinic.
This article was a real revelation because before this, neither travel clinic nor yellow fever was not on my medical dictionary and from now onwards, they have a special place.
