Factors To Consider In Selecting A Taekwondo School

The need for attainment of timely and good results for Taekwondo training calls for a careful assessment of your preferred centre.
Location of your preferred centre plays a major role here. If the school is within walking or cycling distance, it may suit you. If you have to commute by car, let it be a few miles so that you do not run into wasteful traffic jams or other inconveniences. If your centre is near enough, chances are that you will attend training sessions regularly.
Secondly, you want to consider your instructor. Here, your instructor’s qualifications for martial arts matter a lot for best training results. The head instructor of your preferred centre should possess more than just the Black Belt. He should be knowledgeable and experienced in either teaching or practice of martial arts. Above all, your potential instructor should be of a sufficient rank to have a clear grasp of the martial arts training system.
Make sure the pricing is commensurate with value. Do not enrol into a Tae Kwon Do school that charges exorbitantly for non essential features ...
... such as state-of–the art aerobics room, assembly or students centres etc, unless those are important to you. Focus on training and its value.
At the same time, consider the type of martial arts system the centre offers. Does it match your objectives? There are a variety of styles martial arts training offers. If you are interested in Taekwondo, Kung fu, karate or kickboxing, just find out beforehand what your preferred school offers.
The Five possible goals for Taekwondo training
Most persons enrol into Tae Kwon Do training for self-defence. The self defence skills learnt here are for either personal or professional ends. However, experienced trainers insist that self defence is the narrowest focus of martial arts training unless you work for the army, police or some brutal-force organisation. Here, you learn extreme combat and killing techniques you may never use in your entire life unless you are a killer.
Secondly, you may learn Taekwondo or Kickboxing for self-discipline, physical fitness, self control, humility and many other possible virtues for a peaceful and responsible coexistence with fellow humans. You may also take advantage of training to expand your social outreach and make new friends, join communities and have fun.
Thirdly, some martial arts staunch followers subscribe to religious dimensions of the practice. Allegedly, some forms of martial arts such as Tai Chi Chuan, Ba-Qua etc deliver inner peace and harmony. This form of martial arts is a lifetime commitment for many trainees and does not always involve long-term formal training.
Fourthly, many persons take up Taekwondo classes as a sport. It may involve organisation of tournaments where different groups take on each other. The sport is very demanding and challenging. However, the sports/tournaments have rules that participants must follow.
Lastly, you may use Taekwondo for demonstration purposes. However, you may consider this as a by-product of the other focuses as you are most likely going to attain it after fulfilling one those already discussed above. This may work for Television programs, movies, stage-acting etc.
You need to understand your objectives for martial arts very well so that you do not commit your resources and time towards a lost cause.
Taekwondo is an Olympic level sport to develop self-defence skills in Melbourne martial arts and kickboxing with taekwondo academy, lessons, TKD, kickboxing, tae kwon do, A focus on mental and ethical discipline, justice, etiquette, respect, and self-confidence.
