Caring For The Tyres Of Your 4x4 Drive

Tyres for most four wheel 4x4 drives are frequently one of the most costly pieces of equipment that you will have to purchase for your vehicle. For a decent quality tyre you can be looking at a price range of 300-400 AUD, which when purchasing 5 tyres at a time is quite a huge expend. What this means is that you want to extend the life of the tyres as much as possible; to get the biggest bang for your buck! To do this, you need to get your tyres balanced and aligned every 10 thousand kilometres. On top of this, ensure that they are rotated in between every 6 and 12 thousand kilometres (and that they are rotated and aligned correctly). If you wish for them to last a long duration, rotate and align them every 4.5 thousand kilometres. Make certain that you are including the spare tyre in the rotation, or you will end up with a brand new tyre that has gone hard because of the age, and you have to throw it out any way. You shouldn't be installing tyres that are older than 6 years, or you run the risk of having a flat tire and blowout.

An additional thing that plays a huge function in how long your tyres last is the pressure they are kept at. Generally, the larger the vehicle and more heavier it is, the more pressure you need to have in each tyre, to keep them firm on the ground. What this means is that a very light weight four wheel drive, like a GMC Sierra should only be running standard tyres at around the 26 - 32 PSI on the road, or you will wear them out very quickly. Obviously, the larger the tyres that you have on your 4wd drive, the less air pressure that you need in them.
