There are millions of people in India who will vouch for the merits of government jobs in India. They are either working in such jobs or are aspirants to be part of the government machinery. The Indian democratic system has put two types of governments in the country, the central government at the helm of the country and the state government in each individual state. Since the governance of the centre and the states are managed by the respective powers, the job recruitments are also done separately.

But the one thing that is common is that these jobs in the government, or which are also known as sarkari naukri, are under the purview of certain set of rules. These rules protect the rights of the employees and provide the advantages that are seldom seen in the private sector jobs. Since the time of independence, the government jobs in India have been preferred by people. And still in the 21st century also, these jobs are in high demand, although the private sector jobs have also created a space in the minds of the millions of people.

Presently, though the scenario is having an almost equal distribution in both ...
... private and public sector, a little inclination is still towards the sarkari naukri. Few of the basic reasons as to why such jobs are in demand among the general masses are:

1. Stability of jobs in the government sector is one of the biggest reasons for the high degree of popularity and preference for these jobs. There is no threat of being removed from jobs which is a common thing in the private sector. In case a private company starts going down the path of losses, it starts cutting out the jobs in a tryst to balance the loss. In a government organisation, the employees are not removed from the jobs, even though it faces such a situation. Also, the government funding is diverted to such companies. Compensations are provided to people in case they are to be removed, provided the organisation is completely shut down.

2. Pay packets in the 21st century in the government jobs in India have improved significantly after the introduction of the 6th pay commission. There has been a rise in the salaries of people in every post in the government. This has made the salaries of the government employees either equal to or more than their counterparts in the private sectors. In such a scenario, people are not willing to let go on opportunity to get into government organisations.

3. Variety of jobs in the government sector is another attractant for people who have studied hard. In these jobs, which people get due to their qualifications and interviews, there are plenty of options. People with the right qualifications can go for the railways, armed forces, health set ups, core engineering, infrastructure, IT and computer, telecommunication, transportation and bank jobs in India. Sectors like the railways and banks are some of the largest recruiters in the country, giving employment to lakhs of people who are properly suited for the jobs. Furthermore, in each sector, people with different qualifications can enter such as seen in the bank jobs in India. Those with MBA, finances, commerce, and computer sciences can find employment in the banks in different capacities.

The variety of jobs that people have on offer in the government organisations is a sure attraction. Millions of students are passing out of the colleges every year. And for them, these jobs in the government sector or sarkari naukri presents the best opportunities to build a career that is lucrative and stable, thereby making them the preferred jobs in the country.
