Perhaps the only people who have the authority to smash cars against walls or flip them over are the great minds in the safety division. They do not do these things out of pure fun, but rather to make sure the car you buy can save your life at a critical moment. The crash tests done by car manufacturers are strictly required by the government.

In the United States, two major bodies oversee these crash tests. One agency is the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), which is responsible for enforcing numerous traffic safety mandates, such as compulsory wearing of seatbelts. The NHTSA rates the safety level of each car model using a comprehensive star system: five stars being the safest. As of 2011, the NHTSA has adopted a reformed rating scheme to evaluate future car designs.

The other agency that handles these crash tests is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This non-profit body, funded and supported by car insurance firms, uses a simpler rating of “good, acceptable, marginal, and poor” to rate cars in terms of safety. The crash tests include vehicle collisions head-on, from the ...
... rear, and even with another car. The results of these tests give car manufacturers ideas on how to make their future cars safer in a worst-case scenario.

To simulate the effects of road mishaps on human drivers and passengers, crash testing uses dummies. These big, plastic dolls risk their heads and limbs in many car crashes to make sure you come out of an accident alive and well. This helps the testers get valuable data on how safety features inside a car will work. These safety features can be found in most cars sold by used car dealers Indianapolis car buyers go to.

The NHTSA monitors two types of car crash tests: frontal and side impact. Both tests are done at a controlled speed of 35 miles per hour, which is around the normal cruising speed for urban driving. These two tests simulate some of the most common accidents on the road today, as the driver is usually prone to collisions head on and from the side. Indianapolis used car dealers will never sell cars that lack safety features.

The different kinds of cars the used car dealer Indianapolis has to offer, brand new or used, are generally as safe as they will ever be. Safety features in the car would not have been possible if it were not for the crash test against a concrete slab or with another car. So the next time you see a car crash test, think about what it has done to let you drive another day.
