Distance learning is a concept that dates back to ages. This is a process of learning by means of which you need not attend the classes regularly. You receive your books and submit your assignments by mail. Now-a-days this process has undergone some changes and the process of distance learning has become completely online. You never go to your classes physically, you never see your faculty. Everything has turned online and even if in some cases you need to attend class, you do that online. You join online sessions and in some cases interact through a message board.

The concept of distance learning was started mainly keeping in mind the working people, young house-wives and people who left studies for some reason or the other. But with the advancement of technology even normal students can opt for this kind of education while they set up their careers at a very small age. Anyone who is confident enough to work hard and do some research working for the sake of studies can opt for distance learning. But one important thing that has to be kept in mind is the fact that not all distance learning centers are accredited.

The mere fact that these degrees cost even less than half of what normal university charges are, account for this fact. The course duration for associate degrees are merely half of what the same courses would take in normal universities. Associate degrees can not only be done at distance learning centers but also at community colleges and private colleges. Associate degrees are available for all the fields be it science or arts.

Students can obtain AS and AAS (i.e. Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science respectively) degrees in the field of science. In the field of arts there is the option of the AA (i.e. Associate of Arts) degree for the students. These are just a few from a huge list of degrees that students can obtain pursuing this form of education. The fact that associate degrees can also be done through distance learning education really has strong point of attracting students more and more towards itself. This justifies the point why distance learning is becoming more popular day by day.
