Your yard is something that you should be proud of. You want the outside of your house and your yard to be just as magnificent as the inside of your home. When it comes right down to it, weeds are pests which can take your beautiful lawn and ruin it very quickly. Anyone with a yard can tell you that weeds can take over before you know it, and can ruin seasons of hard work. Therefore, it is important to have a year round plan to control weeds so that you can continue to enjoy your yard for years to come. If you truly want to have the best yard possible and take care of your property, you need to be vigilant and take steps to control weeds, no matter what season you find yourself in.

Spring

Spring time is a very important season when it comes to controlling weeds. This is the one season where you can make or break an entire season's worth of weeds and mess that comes along with them. Therefore, what you do with your lawn in the spring is crucial.

As soon as the snow is melting, you need to begin your weed control plan. Remember that messy or dirty areas will pave the way for new weeds to grow, so ...
... be sure that as the snow melts and spring time comes along you are cleaning up any dirty areas that you can see. Remove all of the dead weeds that you can find, because where there are dead weeds in the spring there will be live ones in the summer. Use a fertilizer, either chemical or organic, as soon as your grass starts to grow, and make sure that the one you use carries a protection against weeds.

Summer

As your grass grows, you should continue to fertilizer it with something that controls weeds. Remember that weeds will take over very quickly. Therefore, as soon as you see something that is not grass, you need to deal with it. Don't even wait until the weekend if you spot a weed, because it will continue to grow and will spread as well. You want to treat and remove any areas of weeds as soon as you have noticed them, and you need to keep this practice up all summer long. Remember that while watering is important for your grass, it will also breed more weeds, so the day after you water will be an important day to double check for weeds and remove them.

Fall

As the fall approaches, your lawn will probably start to look a little bit dried out. In the fall, when you are preparing for winter, it is a good idea to start digging out the roots of any weeds that have plagued you all summer long. As your grass dies off, you will be better able to notice pockets of weeds. You can dig them out of the ground, and make sure that you get all of the roots of the weed systems. Remember that this is the best time to do this because of the holes that will be left in your lawn. If you do dig up weeds, make sure that you replace the dirt and leave your lawn smooth. Grass will grow there in the spring. Also, during the fall you need to do overall lawn maintenance. Make sure that you are raking and bagging the leaves and sticks that have fallen. Also, make sure that you keep your lawn neat and orderly even as it starts to die. Do not allow garbage to sit on your lawn in the fall. Also, do not leave bags of leaves on your grass, as the moisture from the plastic will cause weeds to grow under the leaf bags.

Remember that before the snow comes or the ground freezes you should fertilize your lawn with a fertilizer that is made for winter care and weed protection.

Winter

Many people ignore their grass in the winter. If you have a good snow covering, you do not need to worry about weeds. However, if you do not have snow you will need to be on the lookout for winter weeds, and you will need to be sure to remove them as soon as you see them. If you do not have snow, you should also do a winter fertilizer to make sure that your lawn comes back healthy and beautiful in the spring.
