Minigym Explorations was founded in September 1979 in the Lone Hill Church in San Jose, by Darlene Sullivan and her friend Jean. Darlene graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree from SJSU and also holds an AA degree in early childhood education. Prior to starting this preschool in San Jose, Darlene was a stay at home mom and loved taking her sons to the Mt. School in Los Gatos. She attended the Los Gatos Saratoga Observation Nursery School, one after another with her four sons. She also taught "Fitness for Women" at the Cupertino Y for about a year and also became an assistant teacher at the Los Gatos Saratoga Observation Nursery School.

Darlene Sullivan was asked to take over a baby exercise program at the Cupertino Y.W.C.A. This program was a huge success and in a period of over 5 years, led to the establishment of several branches of Santa Clara County Y. The school was initially founded in the Lone Hill Church in San Jose, but with the increase in its popularity and growth, it was shifted to the old Cambrian Junior High School site that had been retired when a new and bigger school was built. The school offers a specialized program of gym and art, for infants and children up to three years of age.

Darlene and Jean worked together as partners until early 90’s, when Darlene bought the school. She continued offering the same program focusing on gym and art. Over the years, Minigym Explorations Inc. has evolved into one of the leading developmental preschools in San Jose and believes that growth is orderly, structured and predictable. Minigym Explorations Inc. proudly offers Exploragym Preschool, a complete child preschool curriculum that has mainly been designed to encourage independence, curiosity and socialization skills, as per the maturity level and personal makeup of every child.
