Grape seed extract is known as an extremely potent antioxidant that destroys harmful scavenging free radicals. It is also greatly beneficial for overall vision in that it helps to protect the capillaries of the eyes.

Professional herbalists may also recommend grape seed extract for a variety of circulatory ailments (including varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency) and other diseases related to free radical damage, including age-related macular degeneration, an eye disorder that develops with age and can lead to blindness. Grape seed extract may help improve night vision and photophobia (sensitivity to light) as well.

To understand why grape seed extract is helpful to your vision and general eye health, you must first look at its chemical makeup. The active ingredient in grape seeds is oligomeric proanthocyanidins, or OPCs. OPCs contain antioxidants and antihistamine properties. Grape seed extract also contains vitamin E, linolenic acid and bioflavonoid complexes, which are rapidly absorbed and distributed throughout the body.

OPC provides nutritional support and vascular protective properties ...
... that protect the health of the eye. Bioflavonoid complex supports healthy eye function. Leucoanthocyanins in grape seed extract help improve night vision and aid in the prevention of age-related and diabetic cataracts. Grape seed extracts have been shown to improve vision by enhancing ocular microcapillary circulation. Studies have found that grape seed extract may slow macular degeneration, improve vision stressed by computer screens or glare, and reduce myopia.

A 6-week, controlled (but not blinded) study evaluated the ability of grape seed (skin) OPCs to improve night vision in normal subjects. In this trial of 100 healthy volunteers, those who received 200 mg per day of OPCs showed improvements in night vision and glare recovery as compared to untreated subjects.

In addition to antioxidant activity, proanthocyanidins from grape seed extract may have anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and anti-atherogenic activities. Research has shown anti-tumor promoting activity with topic grape seed proanthocyanidins -- both topically for skin cancer and internally for things like breast and lung cancer.

Since there are countless benefits of grape seed extract on people’s health, you may wonder whether you can take the supplement for the relief of aching legs, night cramps, fluid retention associated with varicose veins, and to support eye function and night vision.

Thus far, there is not enough scientific evidence to suggest that grape seed extract really works (or does not work) for other uses. More studies (especially large, high-quality studies) are necessary before the supplement can be recommended for such uses.

The grape seed extract is a top supplement. Get to know grape seed extract and grape seed extract suppliers so as to improve your health.
