Remote Control Helicopter – Toys For Big Boys
Toys aren’t always designed for just the little boys. When men get older they want to keep their toys but these devices get complicated and far more complex as time goes on. The same can be said for remote control helicopters. These are not the simple toys that have a basic twist engine that will rotate the propellers a few times. These are machines that actually run on gasoline fuel and have engines that run almost exactly as the real thing does and it get even more complex when one puts into consideration all the mechanics and technical engineering to fly these helicopters via remote control.
You may buy remote control helicopter from different types but it all basically comes down to what level of experience you have flying these kinds of toys. There are mainly helicopters designed for beginners and then there are helicopters designed for the more advanced flyer who knows the ins and outs of flying these machines. From here the categories split between single rotor helicopters and co-axial helicopters. Co-axial choppers have more than a single rotor on them and they are designed to have an upper rotor blade and ...
... a lower rotor blade and they don’t sport a tail rotor. Single rotors are the choppers with only one rotor and are divided into two subcategories namely the fixed-pitch and the collective-pitch types. The fixed-pitch type of helicopter uses a throttle and a throttle only and it has a limitation due to a rotor that cannot be moved. Collective-pitch helicopters on the other hand utilize a throttle and pitch control as well but these are not advised for beginners. The fixed-pitch is best for beginners still trying to get a grasp on how to handle flying the choppers and getting a grasp on how the remote control works.
You need to consider the model as well. Mini models of remote control helicopters are fine for indoor flying while some of the higher models utilize more than three channels to give you more range in moving your helicopter besides just up and down, forward and back. The simpler, smaller models are best for beginners while the bigger, more complex models are designed for those who know how to manipulate the controls and those who know how to work the engine properly for good maintenance.
It is always best to find the right helicopter that works for you. If you are still learning it is ideal to get a remote control helicopter that is not too expensive and is not too large since you are more likely going to end up crashing it every now and then in the learning process. This is expected so don’t get frustrated if during the early trials you end up crashing on the wall or back on the ground faster than you imagined. As you get better handling the helicopter you’ll be able to advance on to the harder units and in time you’ll find yourself investing in some of the costlier models that take time and effort to fly.
