One of the many ways to lose weight is by taking pills that do exactly that – called weight loss pills. These pills have grown into an entire industry of their own, with loads and loads of manufacturers cropping up every other day with a new product that “makes you slim, fit and healthy”! With these claims, one cannot help but wonder whether these pills actually work, and if they do, how? And do these pills offer long term, permanent solutions or just temporary ones? We will have a look at these issues in the following article. For one, there is no “quick and easy” way to lose weight. Even though these weight loss pills might offer a “fast” way to “melt away those pounds”, be sure to keep in mind that it is not just with pills that you can actually lose weight. These need to be complemented with a healthy diet and some exercise. That’s the fine print, which does not show up in advertisements. If losing weight were as easy as popping in a pill and sitting at home, there would be no obese people in the world at all! But that’s not the case, and its because losing weight is not that simple. Weight loss ...
... pills come in many kinds – prescription pills, over the counter pills, supplement pills, to name a few. Prescription pills are obviously prescribed by your doctor, and can only be obtained upon producing a prescription. The advantage in using prescription pills is that your dosage and activity is looked after and monitored by your doctor, and any side effects can be minimized this way, with a doctor looking after you. The biggest danger that weight loss pills pose is of side effects, which can sometimes lead to serious heart problems, and in extreme cases, even death. This is the reason why prescription pills are the most preferred pills, because taking pills without any guidance can lead to trouble. Over the counter pills can be obtained without a doctor’s prescription, but can put you at more risk when compared to prescription pills. Over the counter pills and prescription pills are both regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but using them is at your own risk. Most of the pills that promise weight loss contain specific drugs, namely Phentermine, Orlistat Bontril/Phendimetrazine and Hoodia, to name a few. These are the major contents of weight loss pills, and each comes with its own set of side effects. Although side effects are not guaranteed in every individual who uses pills, there is still a major chance. Most major drugs work on your appetite, and reduce it. So that if you don’t feel hungry, you’ll eat less, and hence, not gain any more weight. In addition, the current weight in the body will start to wear off, as you will not be eating the same amounts f food as before. However, it is very important to choose the right kinds of food (veggies, boiled food and absolutely nothing that has been cooked in oil). Some drugs have been found to be highly addictive, thus resulting in symptoms like losing all appetite for food, increase in heart rates, and continual craving for the drug. As with anything, too much of goodness turns bad. Though initial usage of these pills might seem fine, if not taken in moderation, can soon lead to addiction, and that in turn can lead to fatigue, frequent headaches, nervous breakdown, heart attacks and a lot more. Always remember that there is no overnight way to make you lose weight and still keep you healthy. Every weight loss method comes with its own risks, and weight loss pills are no different. Pills have to be balanced with a healthy diet and exercise. Good luck on losing weight – and becoming healthy!
