Herpes is a highly contagious infection which is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). Basically there are two types of herpes, oral herpes and genital herpes. Oral herpes affect the mouth region causing cold sores or fever blisters whereas genital herpes causes sores below the waist. Herpes can spread by intimate contact and kissing. There are many factors responsible for herpes such as stress, hormone imbalance, pregnancy and fatigue. The symptoms of herpes may include fever, swollen glands, painful sores and flu-like symptoms. Fortunately there are several simple home remedies for herpes which can be tried at home.

Rubbing ice on the affected area for few minutes is one of the easiest and most effective home remedies for herpes. We all are familiar with tea bags. All you need to do is to cool the tea bags by placing them on the fridge. Now apply these cold tea bags directly on the affected area. The enzymes and tannic acid found in tea will reduce the pain and inflammation.

This method is very helpful for the treatment of herpes. Cornstarch is known to provide relief from the pain and discomfort due to herpes. All you need to do is dab the infected area by a cotton ball dipped in cornstarch.

In case of fever and pain due to herpes, one can try drinking peppermint tea as it will reduce the pain and subdue the fever. These were some of the basic home remedies for herpes which can be tried at home with ease.
