Kumquat fruit is a sweet and tangy flavored and a winter season delicacy. It is part of Citrus family, which includes limes, oranges and lemons. There are many fruit extracts of Citrus family. Soluble fibre helps to lower blood cholesterol levels and may protect against heart and circulatory disease. They provide readily accessible energy. Kumquats provide the B vitamin, riboflavin, which is a component of various enzymes involved in energy metabolism.
Water-soluble fibers, such as the pectin found in fruit may be particularly helpful in lowering triglycerides. Kumquat contains moderate amounts of minerals like copper, calcium, manganese, potassium, zinc, selenium and iron which help in biological functions such as controlling blood pressure and heart rate, formation and production of red blood cells and cellular oxidation.
Though kumquats have a wide range of benefits, remember that moderation is important. Too much consumption can lead to the depletion of calcium in the body, resulting in dental decay and bone disease.
