The news always seems to be constantly flooded with celebrities being married, divorced, then remarried or alleged affairs. What has happened to the traditional views on marriage? Marriage has always been understood to be the eternal sacred bond between man and woman. However, with divorce rates steadily growing year to year the concept of marriage seems to have deviated from its traditional definition. It seems like divorces are becoming more and more accepted by society and as a result are more frequently occurring.
Now this is not to say that many people do not have a happy, fulfilling, and lasting marriage. On the contrary most married couples do keep to their vows. However, the growing number of divorces is still a concern for those that are thinking of taking this important step in life. Before taking this leap into the unknown make sure that both you and your partner are prepared for everything that a marriage entails.
Many things should be taken into consideration before; popping the question. First and most importantly is to think of the relationship between you and your partner. How well do you really ...
... know each other? Is there enough between you two to sustain your relationship through the years? Pretty much all the questions an unsure parent may ask should be thought through and answered. Think especially about longevity and commitment. Make sure that you are ready to be fully committed and address and doubts that may arise.
The next thing to consider is how ready the two of you are for marriage. For many people the love is there; however, the timing just is not right. Whether it is a conflict with education, a career, or just the fact that you are not ready to make this large commitment the timing must be taken into consideration. Make sure that you and your partner are fully aware and understand the affects marriage will have on your lives. Issues such as a place to live, income, and even daily chores should all be planned out and ready.
It is important to note that this must be thoroughly discussed between you and your partner. Even if you both individually come to the conclusion that you are ready for marriage, it is important to discuss it together in order to make sure that both your definitions of ready are in line with each other. This goes for every concern and consideration that arises with marriage. Communication is essential to make sure that the two of you are on the same page and have a complete and uniform understanding of what your marriage will entail. A lack of communication is said to be the biggest pitfall between couples both married and unmarried. So take extra precaution and make sure this does not become one for you.
Marriage is still a sacred eternal bond to those who believe it is. If after all considerations are made you and your partner feel that you are ready for marriage then confidently take the final step.
