Canker sores are basically small ulcers which occur in the lining of the mouth. These are quite sensitive and painful. Aphthous Stomatitis is the scientific name for canker sores. These sores are not contagious and some of the reasons for canker sores are; eating spicy and acidic food or accidently biting our own cheek or tongue while chewing food.

Baking soda is one of the most effective home remedies for Aphthous Stomatitis. Either you can apply baking soda directly or you can make a paste of baking soda and water and then apply. You can even make a mouthwash out of it by mixing 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of salt with a cup of water.

Milk of magnesia is also considered one of the good home remedies for canker sores. All you have to do is take a cotton swab soaked in milk of magnesia and apply it directly on the affected area. Try this 2 to 3 times a day. Aloe vera sap is also an effective way to treat Aphthous Stomatitis. Applying aloe vera sap on the sores will give you relief from the pain and will help in treating the sores too.

... helps in subduing the pain caused by canker sores. So try to add one bowl of yogurt in your diet and make it a daily routine until the sores vanishes. Applying tea tree oil directly on the Aphthous Stomatitis is beneficial. To get relief from the pain and for quick healing you can apply some alum on the sores.

Onion has many medicinal properties which help in treating sores; you can apply raw onion juice on the sores. Grapefruit juice can also be used to treat Aphthous Stomatitis. Add few drops of grapefruit juice in a cup of water and gargle it. Eating lots of papaya helps in healing the Aphthous Stomatitis fast. Chewing papaya leaves is also beneficial since the extracts of these leaves have medicinal properties.

Honey is a natural healer for all kinds of sores so applying honey to the sores is also a good idea. Coconut milk is one of the simplest home remedies for canker sores, just gargle with coconut milk twice a day and see its effects. While you are suffering from Aphthous Stomatitis you should avoid hot, spicy and salty foods. One should also avoid sweets as well as toothpaste made of Sodium lauryl sulphate since it irritates Aphthous Stomatitis. These home remedies for canker sores as mentioned above are easy and convenient to use.
