Scars are among the hardest-to-treat of cosmetic conditions since they extend above and below the surface of the skin. Above the skin, scars appear like blemishes. This is because scars tend to rupture the surface of the skin. This makes scars appear like unhealed wounds. Further, scars tend to weaken the surrounding skin surface, making it more susceptible to developing hyperpigmentation or getting infected by microorganisms.

Understand Challenges of Scar Treatment & Basics of Scar Formation
Please note that most of the scar treatment measures available in the over-the-counter format are not very effective. This means that they can camouflage the scar to some extent or reduce its size minimally but they cannot eradicate the presence of scars. Scars can develop from various reasons, including acne break-out or injuries and abrasion to the skin. Scars present a deterrent to the body’s skin-healing system. This is because scars are present in the form adhesions below the surface of the skin. Here, scars take the form of adhesive tissue which is essentially connective tissue that has hardened over a period. Please ...
... understand that this hardening of connective tissue is a part of the body’s healing process wherein the hardened tissue is actually a protective layer that helps to limit the expansion of the scar tissue and ensures that the scar doesn’t progress like an infection. During the process of the scar tissue formation, the collage protein causes hardening of the tissue. This is primarily responsible for the coarse and visually un-appeasing outline of scars. The most common type of scars found among men and women are acne scars. Scars that have been present for a few years, i.e. aged scars, tend to take the form of permanent marks on the face. These are often referred to as Keloid scars.

Explore Popular Cosmetic Scar Removal Procedures
The only way of removing scars in a comprehensive manner is undertaking a Cosmetic Scar Removal Procedure. There are many types of Cosmetic Scar Removal procedures, each varying in its term of intensity and overall utility. The most common of Cosmetic Scar Removal methods include:

1. Laser Cosmetic Scar Removal
Laser Scar Removal is among the latest and most effective means of comprehensively treating the scars. Laser Scar Removal uses the laser beams for heating the skin for promoting skin-healing and removing the scar tissue. Laser cosmetic treatment is useful for removing facial and bodily scars. There are two kinds of Laser Scar Removal procedures. While one method uses laser beams for slowly vaporizing the outer/scar tissue, the other is aimed at heating the internal tissue only, i.e. below the scar, only without affecting the outer scar layer. This is because during external heating of the skin there is some apprehension about the skin developing a blushed appearance for a few days, particularly among people who have sensitive skin and those are light-skinned. This is also the more conventional form of Laser Scar Removal procedures, called Ablative Laser Scar Treatment, while the non-surface scar removal procedures are called Non-Ablative Laser Scar Treatment procedures. All laser scar treatments are performed on an outpatient basis, i.e. in a clinical setting, without needing a proper, hospital admission. The entire procedure takes under an hour. The most popular variations of laser scar treatment include the use of Er:YAG and Laser Scar Removal lasers. Laser beams are able to intensively heat the underling tissue of the skin. This stimulates a process regeneration of skin repair and renewal that helps to accelerate the healing process of the scar site. Further, the comprehensive heating of the skin also raises its overall elasticity, neutralizing issues like stretch marks appearing around the scar-site.

2. Blue Light Acne Scar Treatment
Acne scars are caused by extreme acne inflammation. These scars are treated using a particular kind of light called Blue Light. During a Blue Light procedure, small molecules, called Porphyrins are set free in the presence of Blue Light. This light has a precise effect on the molecules that instantly produce free radicals. These radicals in turn kill the bacteria causing the inflammatory acne. Please understand that this treatment is recommended for patients wherein the scar is still active, i.e. it is invaded by microorganisms perpetrating the acne and the resulting scar tissue formation. This procedure is usually followed-up by some kind of abrasive scar tissue treatment like dermabrasion wherein the outer surface of skin is scrubbed with mechanical devices, rubbing-off the remnants of the scar tissue.
