Difference Between Thesis And Dissertation – The Key Bait For Your Degree

You might have heard that doctorate and extended essays are the same. But are they really similar to each other?
Is there any distinction among the two?
Which one is lengthier and how are they different, if they really are let is find out.
In some universities and dictionaries, both are treated as synonyms for each other. They are defined as same generally Any formal discourse in speech or writing. This is the general definition that is used for both Thesis and dissertations. But when discussing these terms in a broader perspective, extended papers are very different from doctorate ones. To start with, they get you different degrees. In United Kingdom, an extended essay is the general requirement of a Master is degree, while the other one is written for a doctorate degree. The situation reverses in some countries where students write doctorate treatise for a master is degree and extended paper for a doctorate degree.
Both the terms are different and they both serve different ...
... purposes. I do agree that extended essay and doctorate treatise have been used in place of each other by many students and universities, but you must know the real difference amid the two. They are very different.
Distinction among the two:
Masters or PhD students should know the distinction amid the two before attempting to write it. The following few shots will drive away any confusion in your mind concerning these two terms:
1.Unlike extended paper, in a doctorate treatise you can also include your own thoughts and findings. You cannot write anything irrelevant though. If you have found something new in your research, relating to your title, you can mention it in your discussion.
2.Doctorate treatise takes longer to complete than an extended paper i.e. a doctorate treatise is lengthier.
3.An extended essay is less tedious compared to doctorate treatise. As you are conducting an original research, it takes longer to complete. After research, the ordered organization of the collected data is also important. Thus, extended paper takes lesser time.
4.As doctorate treatise is lengthier than extended essay, their word limits also differ. It contains 80,000–100,000 words, whereas an extended paper contains 8,000-25,000 words.
5.Main difference between thesis and dissertation is that, in a doctorate treatise you have to add your analysis and findings in to the already existing literature. Whereas, in extended disscussion you are just explaining the existing literature.
To be precise, both the terms are very different from each other. Though at some places these terms are exchanged with each other, they are hardly similar. When seen in a broader perspective, they come out to have various distinctions. Master is or Doctorate degree students should know these distinctions.
