The search for the best baby deals online in Australia has been rising rapidly over the last year largely due to the stronger Australian Dollar and an emerging web savvy mummy generation. Mums are no longer settling for the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) and why should they be?

The biggest area of growth in the retail sector within Australia over the last year was in the baby retail sector. There may be the pending GFC lurking about, but ultimately there is always going to be a market who will continue to shop for essential and “must have” baby buys.

Long gone are the days of 200% mark up on retail goods.
Retailers need to open their eyes and adapt to the changing way consumers (aka Moms) are shopping or they will end up closing their shop doors for good. The power of who dictates prices is shifting in the consumers favour andit’s about time.

The internet provides instant price comparison between baby and kids stuff from one website to the next and even between brick and mortar stores. Shoppers can make informed choices when they make their purchase making their dollars stretch that little bit further. Price comparison shopping is becoming increasingly more important as the cost of living increases.

When compared to overseas prices for identical items it is pretty obvious Australians are being ripped off. Retailers and especially, importers are not passing on the savings the stronger Australian Dollar has brought them.

To be sure you know you are getting the best baby deals, do a little research on the websites you wish to purchase from. Check out their Facebook page and see what other shoppers are saying about their products and service. Many websites will also have a review section which help moms make the decision about the product, its usefulness and value for money.

Look out for group buying deal sites for mums, babies and kids stuff like Bargain Babee. Their mission is fresh and innovative in that they are bringing mums baby deals directly from manufacturers which cut out
all the middle men in the supply chain who are responsible for more than half the value of the price tag you see in regular stores.

There will definitely be more of these business models popping up in the near future for a variety of products as businesses realize that consumers have the buying power now and will not be held ransom to
ridiculous “recommended retails prices”! (Or retail rip-off prices as I like to call them) Exciting times ahead for consumer and retailers as consumers benefit from more value for the Dollar and retailers explore more creative pricing strategies to beat the competition.
