Homeowners have a serious termite pest controlproblem when they discover that their homes have been infested. How long have the termites been there? How much of our home have they eaten? What types of termite treatments are there and which kinds am I going to need to do?These are questions homeowners want and need answered.

Even though termites are a valuable part of the ecosystem because they aid in the decomposition process of dead plants, however when they decided to aid in the decomposition process of the wood in your home, their value seems to drop considerably in the eyes of homeowners.

If your house has already been infested, it is too late to act on your own. Depending on the type of termite and how long they have been in the wood, they can literally eat through a home. Time is of the essence, so contact a reputable termite pest control company as soon as possible. This will minimize the damage. If your house hasn’t been infested, now is the time to use preventative measures to lessen the chance of ever having to contact a termite pest control company.

Reduce Moisture

If you want to keep ...
... termites off your property, you’ve got to do one thing: reduce moisture. Termites love and need moisture to thrive. Without it, they don’t have a chance. To make sure they don’t have the moisture they need, do everything to prevent excess moisture in and around your home.

If you have crawl spaces under your home, place polyethylene film in them to create a moisture barrier between the soil and your home. Make sure there is good cross ventilation in the wall vents to keep the wood as dry as possible. Seal all exposed wood with weather sealer, paying special attention to window seals and the edges of walls.

Cut any bushes that may grow up against the house, because they can encourage mold and moisture in the wood. Build sand barriers under fences, patios, and stairs.

Pre-Treat your Soil

If you are having a house built and want to prevent termite control problems from ever arising, have the soil treated before building begins. You can also have a barrier built beneath your foundation so that the wood and soil never come in contact. These types of treatments are expensive, but if you can afford it, it will save you lots of time and money later. Also, if you decide to sell the home for any reason, being able to say the house was pre-treated for termite pest control will increase the selling value. It is definitely a good investment.

These are just some of the things you can do to prevent termites. There are many more. The more you do to protect your house from termites, the less likely they’ll be able to infest it.

Termites are necessary in the overall environment, but they are not necessary in your home. Many infestations go unnoticed until serious damage has been done. By this point, only expensive repairs will be able to save the ravaged wood. Don’t let your home get to this point. Take precautions and contact a termite pest control company, such as Young Environmental Solutions, today.
