Everyone knows the importance of eating a healthy and balanced diet. In theory, if you eat such a diet you will not require to take vitamins or minerals at all. Every item of food will contain adequate proportions of vitamins and minerals in natural form. Some foods are better known for specific things than others. If you think of orange juice for example, you will automatically think about vitamin C.

But in reality we don’t all get a properly balanced diet. The Western way of living has led to poor diets and too few fruits and vegetables. We may try to get our five a day but it can be immensely tricky to do so when we are tempted by so many other delectable things such as chocolate cake and biscuits!

This is the main reason why people opt to take vitamins and minerals such as magnesium citrate, Omega 3 supplements and other balanced selections of vitamins on a daily basis. It’s a way of knowing that even if you don’t get everything you need in your meals during the day, you can have the knowledge that your supplements will take up the slack.

Some people opt to take an all round vitamin and mineral ...
... supplement. This will usually contain a range of the most popular and much needed vitamins. It will also have minerals in it. Other people take a supplement which appeals to a particular need they may have. This is where supplements such as magnesium citrate come in.

Magnesium is a very important mineral within the body. It’s responsible for playing a role in many different areas of health. For example your bones need a regular supply of magnesium, as do your muscles. In this situation a good quality supplement of magnesium citrate could have a positive effect on the health of these aspects of your body over a longer period of time.

Whatever supplement you take, it is very important to follow the instructions for it. Some are best taken once a day with a meal and this will very often be first thing in the morning. Once you get into the habit of taking them you won’t forget to do so. Other supplements, such as the magnesium malate example, can be best taken several times in one day, rather than taking the daily dose in one hit. This allows for better use of the mineral, because a little taken more often can get better results in this case.

As you can see, if you want to supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals, there are plenty of them around to help you. The more you understand about what your body needs and which supplements you should be taking, the easier it will be to buy the supplements you want.
