Using Kinesio Tape On Knee Injuries
The knee is made flexible by supporting muscles and tendons that easily get inflamed and injured because of overuse. Falls and jolts during day to day activities and intense physical activities damage the kneecap, causing intense pain. When problems like this occur, it is advisable to use kinesio tape. Kinesio tape is a special athletic tape that makes use of practical healing technique to ease the pain and physical injuries and speed the natural healing process.
Unlike conventional athletic tapes that hold the injured area in place and keep the muscles and tendons still, the kinesio tape allows the knee to bend and flex easily and naturally. The underlying area of study of the kinesio tape is based on the principle of kinesiology taping. The principle is that leaving the injured area open and mobile encourages proper circulation and helps the body to heal quickly and thoroughly. Proper blood and lymph flow allows the injured muscles and tendons to heal fast.
But there is a proper technique for applying the kinesio tape and you must know it if you want to ensure that the tape works efficiently and that your body ...
... heals faster. Kinesiology tape usually comes in different shapes and cuts, such as I, X, and Y. For knee injuries, you must place a strip of the tape on the outside of the calf and crisscross it to get the same hold as that offered by a conventional knee brace. X cut Kinesio tape with a circular hole inside provides extra support to the knee and allows the muscles to bend and flex naturally.
Do not apply the tape too liberally as too much of the tape can inhibit the natural flow of blood and other body fluids which the body requires for healing the affected area. By applying the tape in the right manner, you can reduce swelling, inflammation, redness, and edema.
As well as using the kinesio tape and kinesiology taping technique for healing your injured knee, you can also use it to ease overworked and strained muscles. But when used in this manner, it is important to apply the tape from the muscle closest to the heart along the muscle fibre for optimum results.
To get the best possible results out of the kinesiology taping technique and kinesio tape, it is better to consult a therapist who has been trained and certified in kinesiology. He would be able to teach you the right techniques for applying the tape.
