Driving lights are extra safety features places on motor vehicles such as trucks, cars, and even boats to provide extra lighting during nighttime driving. They come in various types, usually depending on their source of light. These lights come as bulbs containing a gas that is subjected to physical stresses in order to produce a light, usually a yellow or white light.

For the purposes of this article we will only be looking at those containing the gas Xenon. These are deemed to be different from fog lights in that fog lights give a nearby view while driving lights enable one to see much farther. They project a frontal beam of light which can be shaped as per an individual customer’s preference. As driving lights they are subject to the rules of usage which apply in various countries.
Xenon driving lights feature bulbs containing a mixture of gases including Xenon. This noble gas is used to retard the evaporation of the filament found within it. They provide excellent lighting and bulbs of this type last longer. They work by passing a current through the gaseous mixture and ...
... thus producing a very bright light. Caution should be taken to keep their wiring separate from the rest of the motor vehicles` lighting system. One of the downsides of these kinds of bulbs is that they are more expensive.

Most vehicles come with standard headlight bulbs and owners tend to replace them with xenon driving lights. This is because xenon lights are known to have a much greater light output and because they do not focus their light down the road but rather produce a greater coverage. The mistake many people make when doing this replacement is that they do not change the reflectors which were used with the previous lights. These reflectors are usually not compatible with the xenon lights and thus may not function well.

Various companies that manufacture vehicle lights give drivers the opportunity to fit their vehicles with these lamps. Careful advice from such professionals beforehand is necessary as such equipment is expensive and subject to wear and tear. The installation process is fairly simple with care being taken as to their placement. They are mounted higher than fog lights are and should be used in conjunction with the vehicle’s headlights and not in lieu of them.
