Car Fog Lamps – Learn More About Them

Installing your car with high quality car foglamps is a necessary measure for anyone who desires a safe drive. They are mostly used in regions where harsh weather conditions lead to changes that cause very low visibility for motorists. These weather conditions include heavy rains, fog, mist, and snow among others. Driving during very dark nights may also require one to use fog lamps.
Some of the fog lamps available in the market are quite unfortunately a hazard to motorists. This is because some of them produce very dim light and thus do little to improve visibility for the driver while others are too bright and the glare may affect other road users. Another area where manufacturers fail in the production of fog lamps is making lights which have erratic beam patterns that are too narrow. This effect does very little to improve visibility conditions for the motorist. Fog lamps that have an insufficient cut-off may also cause problems to the motorist. The common inferior products available in the market have xenon bulbs or produce a blue light. Drivers need to be aware of the salient features that these lamps have in order ...
... to ensure their safety and that of other road users.
Good car foglamps should produce wide beams of light which have sharp cutoffs such that the light produced brightly illuminates the bottom and the sides of the road. The light produced should be enough to provide visibility for motorists in bad weather conditions without inconveniencing or endangering other motorists who are using the same road. The color of the light produced should be white or a selective yellow in color, usually achieved with tungsten-halogen filaments.
Many motorists make the mistake of using fog lights together with headlights. This leads to having very bright lights which are harmful to other road users. In some severe cases one may have to use both lights though. Good quality fog lamps should be sufficient to provide enough light for the immediate foreground and peripheral area. Most countries have regulations on the use of fog lamps, outlining the courtesies and etiquette for their use and also when they should be used. For example, during rainy conditions some fog lamps tend to create image illusions on slick roads and so it’s necessary to know when to turn them off or dim them. The functioning of fog lights is not only affected by their quality but also by how well they are installed on the vehicle.
