The United States of America has a very engaging sports culture, fueled by the various types of sports and the number of professional and amateur leagues for each sport. Many Americans root for a team. It may be because of hometown allegiances, school allegiances, or just plainly for the love of the game.
One of the most polarizing sports is football. Some decry the hard tackles and rough hits, but few can deny the beauty of a touchdown pass. No other sport blends toughness and grace, finesse and carnage in the same way. Plenty of America’s sports icons have been produced by the National Football League, with John Elway, Lynn Swann, and Dan Hampton to name a few. The word “touchdown” has entered the vocabulary of most Americans and is used to describe things outside of football. The Super Bowl remains as one of the most watched sporting events in the whole world, with plenty of parties being held in its honor. ... a fan’s allegiance. There are even team related items that are great for tailgating at the game like a tackle buddy, which can alternate as a punching doll should a team disappoint its fans.
Football isn’t the only sport to establish a large fan base. Due to the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, the National Basketball Association established itself as a global product, taking the world by storm and capturing the hearts of fans everywhere. But America has witnessed the evolution of the game since the beginning: the defensive mastery of Bill Russell, the over-all dominance of Wilt Chamberlain, and the clutch performance of Michael Jordan. The powerful jams, the aerial showmanship, the fancy passing, and the buzzer-beaters have all been slam dunks, into the hearts of people in America and all over the world. The buzz over basketball can be seen in the increase in sales of basketball tee shirts and other items with basketball team logos. Clearly fans have jumped on the basketball bandwagon and are proud to show their allegiance.
While football makes more money and basketball has more showmanship, the sport that defines American culture the best is still baseball. This is the game America invented and has shared with the world. America loves baseball, from the little leagues to Major League Baseball. All-time greats like Joe DiMaggio, Reggie Jackson, and Mickey Mantle have been heroes to fans for generations. Plenty of baseball terms have also entered American pop culture, with the dreaded “three strikes” and the classic “homerun.” Sales of baseball tee shirts and caps have been around for generations and don’t show signs of slowing down.
With so many sports to choose from and so many teams within each sport, there are several items related to sports that one can choose to buy.
