Motor Industry News: Bmw Introduces New Engines
German car manufacturer BMW has announced the launch of several new engine models which will raise the standard of the driving experience on some of its best known vehicles.
Last week the company premiered versions of a new aluminium two litre, four cylinder unit employing its acclaimed twin-turbo technology for the Z4 range and the 5 Series.
The new units will be available on the Drive20i and sDrive28i models of the Z4, while the engine range of the 5 Series has expanded with the inclusion of two new derivatives in the form of the 520i and 528i models.
Whether you are looking to buy a car for yourself or are interested in BMW car leasing. For your business, you will be pleased to know the firm claims the new engines will lower emissions and fuel consumption while ensuring a more pleasant driving experience.
More technical minded readers may be interested in the figures: The Drive20i reaches 184hp at 4800rpm while the Drive28i hits 245hp from 5000rpm. The torque figures are particularly impressive, with the new ...
... designs generating 270Nm and 350Nm of force respectively from 1250rpm. Despite this performance there is a 20 per cent drop in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The Z4 designs boast greater turbo boost pressure and a high precision fuel injection system. It is hoped the development will help keep the company at the forefront of the global automotive industry as well as cementing the reputation of the car as one of the most desirable retractable hardtop roadsters on the market. The Z4 range begins at around £29,000 from new and there are plenty of BMW lease deals which could help finance your purchase.
Both 5 series models are also powered by a new four-cylinder, two litre petrol engine which offers six cylinder performance. The 528i manual saloon achieves 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds but still has emissions of just 152g/km while the 520i saloon has a fuel economy 44.1mpg, while CO2 emissions dip under 150g/km. They employ direct fuel injection, twin-scroll turbocharger technology, double-VANOS camshaft control as well as a VALVETRONIC variable valve control.
The new technology is significant seen as the Series 5 is one of BMW’s flagship vehicles. Several generations of the model have developed since production began in 1972 with the E12, accounting for a substantial amount of the company’s profits.
The Z4 is a much more recent development having been launched in 2002 although it followed a long line of roadsters manufactured by the business including its predecessor the Z3.
Both models have won design awards and received rave reviews from the automotive press over the years and proved popular choices for motorists looking for luxury vehicles as well as companies taking advantage of BMW lease cars.
All the above engines have a six speed manual gearbox as standard with an eight-speed automatic as an optional extra. For more information, including a detailed outline of the engine specifications, visit the BMW website.
