A toothache can be quite unbearable, and it is almost always the result of decay or a gum infection in the mouth. Pieces of food caught in between the teeth can be responsible for the tooth decay and the resulting pain in the teeth. Fortunately, there are toothache remedies that you can resort to, for treating your tooth decay and problems. Here are some of the things you can do to help treat decay of the tooth.
Salt water. Warm salt water is a natural way to disinfect your mouth. If there is bacteria growing inside your mouth, the warm saltwater can help prevent its growth. Heat a cup of water and add a teaspoon of salt to it. Once it is lukewarm, take it off the heat, pour in a glass and rinse your mouth thoroughly with it. Use this remedy after every meal for best results.
Ice cubes. Fill a tumbler with ice cubes and rub it along the surface of your cheek where the tooth pain can be felt the most. Rub for about 2 to 3 three minutes and then take a break. Continue doing this before finally the ice melts. You can use any other kind ...
... of ice pack as well.
Bay berry. One of the best remedies for toothaches is bay berry. Grind the berries and apply its extract on the exact area of the toothache. The paste can help relieve the pain immediately. Keep applying the paste as and when the pain arises.
Onions. Peel an onion and cut out large chunks of it. Now take a piece of onion and apply it on your affected tooth. Onion contains certain antibacterial properties that can check the growth of bacteria. This can help reduce germs as well as the pain.
Toothpaste with fluorides. For sensitive gums and decaying teeth, there are special toothpastes that are very gentle in their affect. Use such kinds of gentle toothpastes, especially ones that have fluorides in them. These toothpastes can be used for as long as you need and as frequently as your tooth hurts.
Clove oil. Clove oil is the oldest and most well-known remedy for toothaches. Drop a few drops of clove oil on a cotton bud and use it to anesthetize the tooth. Be careful though, while using this remedy because clove oil is very strong and may scald your flesh wherever you apply it, so when you are applying the oil on your tooth, take care to prevent it from touching the sides of your cheeks. You may also use ground cloves for the remedy. If you want to use whole clove for the pain, you can simply place the clove between the teeth that are hurting.
Vanilla extract. The use of vanilla extract on a tooth that is hurting is similar to that of clove oil. Vanilla extract would also be found in the manner of essential oil. Simply use a cotton swab, douse it with vanilla essential oil and then apply it to your tooth. You will get immediate relief and this usually lasts for several hours.
Lemon extract. Like salt, lemon also has antiseptic properties, and though lemon extract may sting a little more than vanilla extract, it can help anesthetize the tooth for quite some time. Simply take a lemon and squeeze it into a small bowl. Then just as with clove oil, use a cotton bud to apply the lemon juice to your aching tooth. As you continue to use the lemon, you will feel the pain in your tooth completely disappearing.
Potato. Though potato juice is considered to be one of the many tooth remedies for an aching tooth, its veracity is really unknown. A lot of people claim to have had relief by using this remedy. As with onions, dice the potato and put it directly under the tooth that is hurting.
Tea bags. Herbal teas have a lot of healing properties and can be used for healing infections and other similar maladies. Immerse a tea bag in cold water and leave it there for about an hour. The pain will be completely gone and will not return for a few hours. This is usually a perfect remedy for someone who requires immediate pain relief. This remedy should ideally be used at night so that you can sleep comfortably.
