Mazda Might Recall 400,000 Vehicles Worldwide
Mazda Motor Corporation has recently announced that it would be recalling about 400,000 vehicles worldwide. This is because the company has received a lot of complaints and reports regarding these vehicles’ problems on its windshield wiper motors. As a matter of fact, Mazda has received about 132 reports regarding this problem before the month of May has ended. This convinced the car maker who had been popular for providing new car finders with reliable vehicles and better auto financing deals that a recall is greatly needed.
The problem with the windshield wiper motors has existed since the later parts of 2009. This was proven by the reports from different Mazda-car owners that some of their vehicles’ windshield wiper motors are malfunctioning. However, Mazda at this point of time realized that a recall is not yet necessary which eventually stopped them from issuing a recall order. Mazda has only kept a closer monitoring scheme for future reports related to this problem as a way of addressing the ...
... issue.
By 2010, Mazda has received additional reports from car finders who were able to buy their own Mazda-made vehicles. These reports include 20 cases of failures of the windshield wipers in North America, 30 in China, 6 in Europe, 29 in Japan, and 47 in other markets where Mazda operates. The increasing number of reports prompted them to reopen the investigation for this particular issue.
Their investigation eventually revealed that the problem was caused by accidental bending of the wiper motor’s ground terminal during the assembly stage. Mazda has realized that this bending could cause the wiper motor to stop working at any time and place the car occupants in danger most especially when driving under heavy rains. These findings eventually caused Mazda to issue the recall order that would start in July.
Given this recall order, Mazda would be recalling their vehicles that were assembled between January 7, 2008 and November 28, 2008. This will affect around 400,000 Mazda 3 and Mazdaspeed3 models. About 103, 300 of these are in the United States while the others are scattered all over the globe. Mazda has also issued a statement that they would reimburse the expenses of Mazda-car owners who already fixed their cars’ wiper motor issues.
