Distracted driving is currently one of the greatest concerns of the federal government particularly the Department of Transportation. This is because distracted driving remains to be the leading cause of accidents on the road. As part of the government’s efforts, the DOT tries to educate vehicle drivers as well as new car finders about the ill-effects of distracted driving by launching public service announcements in the form of commercials.

Even the leading car makers that are famous for providing the best auto financing deals for car finders are also taking part in this effort. Almost all of them are doing their own campaigns to instil the value of well-focused driving to the buying public and their customers. As a matter of fact, leading car makers have devoted larger amounts of money for this particular purpose.

Just recently, the DOT has produced a public service announcement dubbed as “Only bad guys drive distracted.” This 30 second ad ...
... uses the cast of the famous movie “Cars” to deliver the message that the announcement tries to project. With this particular strategy, the DOT hopes to raise the awareness among drivers and vehicle owners to devote the needed attention when driving.

Within the ad, the cast of Cars 2 explicitly discouraged drivers to stop texting, taking calls, and talking while driving for these activities usually takes the driver’s attention on the changing road conditions leading to accidents or collisions.

This public service announcement that features Car’s cast was actually not the first time that the federal government has used cartoon characters in delivering tough messages to the public. They previously used Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother to remind parents of the benefits of booster seats on cars in 2005.

Aside from these ads and public service announcements, the federal government is also thinking whether to regulate the instalment of communication devices on latest car models or not for this might serve as a source of distraction for drivers. This eventually led to a series of studies that would try to quantify the dangers posed by texting and calling while driving. With these efforts, the federal government hopes to increase the awareness towards distracted driving.
