Highly industrialized countries are the greatest contributors of greenhouse emissions. In response to this, governments have instituted policies designed at reducing dangerous carbon gas emissions. Comprehensive and targeted programs have been introduced to reduce individual and business carbon footprint in line with UN sponsored agreements.

Carbon footprints represent the amount of carbon and greenhouse emissions produced by organizations or an individual. One of the biggest challenges the world is facing today is the unabated destruction of the environment and our ozone layer. The Kyoto Protocol is just one of the numerous international agreements that various governments have undertaken to address this very pressing concern.

It should not be surprising to know that a majority of greenhouse emissions come from the highly industrialized countries like the United States, China and the United Kingdom. The UK for example has made great strides in reducing greenhouse emissions by introducing policies aimed at decreasing individual and business carbon footprint.

Reducing dependence on fossil based energy sources ...
... has its own economic benefits as well. Rising fuel prices has made the use of renewable energy a more cost effective solution. However, this remains to be seen as large scale production of energy needed for sustaining large scale economies remains to be something for the future.

Developing these technologies also requires a lot of funding which the government is trying to address by requiring companies to invest in carbon offsetting services. Organizations and companies who are responsible for a huge percentage of all greenhouse emissions are encouraged to fund green projects to compensate for their carbon footprint.

Organization and business carbon footprint are measured and this is used to calculate how much greenhouse emissions should be reduced or establish if a company is operating within required levels. Some companies are striving to become carbon neutral. Companies can create polices on employee transportation ensuring staff can get to work or conduct company business via greener transport options such as public transport or cycling or walking. Cutting down on office stationary, paper usage and recycling are cost saving and easy options for companies as well as the folk at home. Individuals are also encouraged to reduce the country’s total carbon footprint by saving on energy or using alternative energy sources.

Taking care of the environment is everybody’s responsibility and the first step in reducing greenhouse emissions could be done at our homes and offices.
