Volvo Will Recall Some Of Its Volvo S60

One of Volvo’s popular vehicle models is its S60 compact executive sedan. The S60 takes pride of its luxurious features and powerful engine that could provide the needed the needed horsepower in situations where the car needs to accelerate. These are the reasons why most executive car finders prefer to buy the S60 despite its relatively higher price that is translated to higher monthly premiums when the vehicle is subjected to auto financing. Due to this, Volvo has sold a lot of S60 in different parts of the globe and one of its largest markets is in North America particularly US.
However, Volvo’s announcement of recalling some of the Volvo S60s that were already sold and those which are still on their dealerships’ lots shocked S60 owners and almost every car finder who are planning to buy their own. The recall was prompted by the issue regarding the S60’s driving performance. There were reports that this model is prone to engine hesitation in certain driving conditions and ...
... possible engine stall. These particular issues eventually became a significant concern for Volvo since engine hesitations and stalls could lead to collisions as well as accidents.
According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem that confronts the S60 was caused by the failure of its software that controls the vehicle’s fuel pumps. The agency suspects that the software, the fuel pumps, and other components are not compatible. This incompatibility results to insufficient transfer of fuel to the pumps that causes the engine to experience hesitation or stall despite the fact that the fuel gauge indicates that the tank still contains sufficient amount of fuel.
Volvo first responded to this issue by denying that they never received any complaints or reports about fatalities and injuries caused by the fuel pump and software failure. According to them, they only received 23 claims on warranty related to this issue. However, Volvo plans on recalling about 7,558 units of 2012 Volvo S60 to address this issue. The recall is expected to start on June 17 to allow their dealerships to upgrade the S60’s software of the module for engine control.
