The automotive industry currently experienced a sudden drop in sales most especially on light vehicles that they produce. Almost every car maker in the US reported that they have experienced almost similar outcomes. This event has stirred a lot of explanations from observers as well as officials from different car makers. These explanations eventually pointed out to some of the most common reasons for the decline. This includes the shortage of vehicle models that most car finders would like to own, the continuous increase in the prices of gasoline, and the rising sticker prices of both expensive and cheap car models.

Due to these reasons several car makers have been complaining about the sudden decline of their sales for the first five months of this year compared to that of the previous. General Motors experienced a 14 percent drop on the demands for their larger pickup trucks. The demand for their crossover models has also slipped by 1 percent. The good thing is that the company’s car sales have experienced a 4 percent increase last month. The demand for pickup trucks ...
... continues to decline despite the fact that General Motors and some of its dealerships are offering flexible auto loans to most of its buyers.

Other car makers also experienced similar fate with General Motors. Nissan Motor Company has recorded a 9 percent decrease on their sales last month. This is the same through with what Honda and Toyota. However, the decline of these Japanese car makers was partly pointed towards the shortage of the supply of their vehicles caused by the March 11 earthquake in Japan. Although they have been assembling their vehicles in the North America, their production were still affected by the shortage of components and vital parts used in producing their vehicles that were imported from Japan.

Chrysler on the other hand has gained a substantial increase on their sales. The company has taken advantage of its closest rivals’ vehicle shortage. The inventory shortage of Honda and Toyota allowed Chrysler’s sales boost by up to 10 percent. Hyundai and Kia are also experiencing the same situation. Their sales increase was viewed to be the result of the two companies’ introduction of more fuel-efficient and cheap new car models. These Korean-based companies were also successful in maintaining healthy inventory. Due to this, Kia’s deliveries last month have increased by almost 53 percent while Hyundai obtained 21 percent. These figures simply show that Chrysler, Hyundai, and Kia could possibly enjoy higher sales in the next few months.
