Adverse side effects from pharmaceutical pain relievers include liver damage and stomach ulcers. In fact, research indicates that more than 16,000 arthritis sufferers die each year from the side effects of over-the-counter pain medications. An additional 104,000 are hospitalized due to gastrointestinal problems associated with these pain medications.

These numbers have exponentially increased the number of sufferers in America that have turned to systemic enzymes for their inflammation relief. Systemic enzymes have not only been shown to help alleviate chronic inflammation, but their extended use is recommended by many health professionals for anti-aging benefits, including cleansed blood and reduced systemic fibrin.

When taking systemic enzymes at the recommended dosages provided by each manufacturer, few users will experience any side effects. Some users, regardless of dosage levels, will experience a slight change in the color and consistency of their stool. Often times, a health practitioner will recommend a much higher activation dosage or even a higher maintenance dosage. With the elevated dosages, ...
... some users will experience detoxification reactions.

Detox reactions from systemic enzymes are generally mild. Symptoms may include fogginess, nausea, headache, or diarrhea. Though uncomfortable, these side effects are actually a sign that the systemic enzymes are doing their job of cleansing the liver and gastrointestinal tract of waste.

If these side effects are intolerable, the user can begin to reduce dosage to slow the rate of detox. Increasing the amount of water intake can greatly speed up the process of the detoxification as well as prevent dehydration.

As with all dietary supplements, it’s always best to consult your physician before beginning any new regimen. Most systemic enzyme manufacturers warn hemophiliacs or those taking anti-coagulants, commonly known as blood thinners, against taking systemic enzymes. Some manufacturers also warn those with gastrointestinal ulcers and sufferers of Chrohn’s disease. Studies have shown that systemic enzymes may increase the absorption of certain pharmaceuticals, such as antibiotics. Be sure to tell your doctor if you are taking systemic enzymes if you are being prescribed any pharmaceuticals. Most manufacturers also suggest discontinuing use about two weeks prior to surgery. This list of warning is not all-inclusive and you should consult your physician should you have any questions about interactions or contraindications.

It’s also important to look at all of the ingredients in your systemic enzyme blend if you have allergies. Some contain derivatives of wheat, corn, soy, pineapple, bovine, and many others.
