The desire to grab greater market shares from competitors has pushed most car makers to explore the possibilities of improving their vehicles. Most of them tried incorporating different unique features that are not usually found in most vehicles that car finders are checking before they make their own purchases. A good example of this is the recent effort conducted by Ford that focuses on the development of cars that are not only environment-friendly but also health friendly. Ford has currently been into the production of cars with seats that could monitor every driver’s heart rate. Ford believes that aside from providing better auto financing deals, to its customers, their sales would surely increase as soon as they release health-friendly cars on the market.

According to a number of Ford officials, the development of seats with the capability to monitor the driver’s heart rate will be subjected to further tests until the technology is perfected. This will benefit not only the drivers with cardiovascular –diseases but ...
... also those that belong to the aging class since this type of drivers are prone to different types of stress that could trigger various cardiovascular diseases to occur. With this technology installed in every Ford vehicle, the driver as well as other vehicle occupants can experience a strong sense of comfort while driving.

This particular move is actually a joint venture between the Aachen University of Germany and Ford Motor Company. This will use six electrode sensors that installed on the driver seat’s backrest. Although these sensors will not touch the driver’s skin, it is expected to provide accurate readings of the heart rate. In addition to this, the seat’s design and health-monitoring functions are compatible to almost 90-95 percent of subjects. Ford takes pride in announcing that the efforts spent on this project was very promising since preliminary results showed positive results.

The move towards the development of this heart rate-monitoring seat is only one of the components of Ford’s commitment to produce vehicles equipped with monitors designed to track the vehicle driver’s health condition. Ford has previously announced that it is developing vehicles with devices for asthma and diabetes management. Given these, it is possible that every car finder would probably prefer Ford vehicles as their options.
