Volvo currently issued a recall order particularly on their XC90 produced within 2010 to 2011 due to problems on its power steering mechanism. The recall involves a total of 350 Volvo XC90 units upon the recommendation of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This is because the government agency points out that the problems on the steering of the XC90s could result to accidents or collisions that most car finders and buyers would like to avoid.

Volvo also accepts the fact that there was an error on their part and decided to cooperate with then NHTSA since this might possibly affect their sales most especially the demands for other Volvo-made cars offered for sale through several auto financing deals.

As a response to the reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Volvo has conducted their own investigation. According to them, the recall was made in order to fix the power steering mechanism of the 350 XC90s recalled that might eventually leak and result to steering failure. ...
... Volvo has identified the root of the problem after conducting a preliminary investigation.
According to Volvo, ZF which is one of its suppliers has identified the root cause of the defect. ZF pointed out that this was probably caused by faulty assembling process. Volvo is also looking upon the use of pipe geometry that is out of specification. These were just the preliminary findings and Volvo assured the NHTSA that they would submit a detailed report after a thorough investigation.

The recall is expected to take effect on May 31. Due to this, owners of Volvo XC90 are encouraged to contact the nearest Volvo dealers for instructions and special arrangements. The company has also assigned a specific contact number for Volvo XC90 owners.

Most car experts expect that what Volvo would do is to allow its dealerships to replace the oil pipes located on the power steering rack. The recall can be considered as a blunder on the part of Volvo however the company might be able to do away with this as soon as the affected vehicle units would be repaired.
