It is not uncommon for both the parents to be working full time, these days. This often leaves kids feeling immensely bored during their long summer break as the parents are generally unable to take long breaks from work to keep their kids busy and entertained. In such a scenario, summer camps can prove extremely helpful in keeping the kids busy with a diverse range of activities that might be of their liking and interest. However, many parents are unsure of the right age of sending their kids to such camps, especially the summer overnight camps.

Parents, who have attended summer overnight camps in their own childhood, are well aware of the activities a child is expected to do at such camps. So, they are better equipped to determine the right age for sending their kids to such a camp. However, other parents need to know a few things, besides understanding the behavior of their kids, prior to making the decision of sending them to the overnight camps.

The best way to judge kids’ ability to attend overnight summer camps is to notice their behavior during sleepovers with friends or relatives. Another major deciding ...
... factor would be the ability of the kids to handle small responsibilities related to their own well-being. The child’s ability to take independent decision in certain situations, ability to handle money as well as care for his belongings, play a vital role in deciding about his ability to attend summer camps. In addition, it is vital to be well aware of child’s eating habits, his ability to mix with strangers and his level of attachment with the various family members.

Since there is no sure shot way of knowing exactly when a kid is ready to attend a summer camp, parent’s can start by trying out with day camps. This will enable them to learn about the child's ability to be on his own, in a practical manner.
