Landscape maintenance may sound like a tedious job if you are new to the niche of lawn care and gardening. It is true that a beautiful landscape means hours of work for several days. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend all the time making it looking good. If you plan well before working your way through, you can save hours of work. Yes, the key is to plan and prepare. The more you plan before starting your work, easier the job gets done. Now while planning, you might need some help. You have to list your priorities. If you need a low maintenance landscape, then keep it simple and follow some simple steps.
Planning has a major role when you are constructing a lawn or landscape. Nevertheless, if you already have a landscape, you can try to apply these simple ideas to make things easier.

Prepare for the basic necessities. To begin with you should plan for the nature and method of watering. Automated watering system is the best way to control water wastage on your lawn. Needless to say, with automated systems you don’t have to worry about skipping any watering sessions. When you are watering manually lot of ...
... water gets wasted; and scientifically it also leads to ‘uneven water distribution’. You may over irrigate certain parts, leaving the rest starved for enough moisture. With a sprinkler system, you can ensure equal water distribution to every nook and corner of your landscape. So make plans for the right kind of sprinkler system with automatic timer settings. For plants and shrubs you can install self water pots. These containers have a small reservoir at their base that continues to moisten the soil from below.

Weeding the lawn and garden is one of the most time consuming maintenance jobs. The best way to tackle with weeds is to devise ways to prevent their growth. Use a good quality pre-emergent herbicide on your lawn. This would kill the weeds at their germination stage or prevent their seeds from germinating. Mulching can also help in avoiding weed growths. Spread the mulch in thick layers to prevent weeds from sprouting. Mulch cuts off the sunlight and air supply to the weeds and they die out soon. This is a great alternative for those who do not wish to use herbicides. Mulching also helps in fertilizing the soil and in keeping it moist.

Use slow release fertilizer on your landscape. This would reduce your need to fertilize frequently. While your landscape is on time release fertilizers, it needs to be fertilized only once in every three or four months. There are several organic slow release fertilizers available in the market. They are safer and give long lasting results.
